Toucan Island Records is an independent label for contemporary music rooted in traditions from around the world.
We started the label to create a home for our own music and for artists around us whose music we genuinely love — and to build something on our own terms.
We believe music has always grown through exchange, curiosity and mutual inspiration. At the same time, every rhythm, melody and tradition carries a history. We see it as our responsibility to acknowledge those histories, to approach them with respect, and to celebrate the artists and communities they come from.
The music we release doesn’t imitate traditions — it continues conversations. It draws from reggae, folk, Latin American, Balkan, Middle Eastern and many other musical influences while finding its own voice. Sometimes acoustic, sometimes electronic. Sometimes intimate, sometimes made for the dancefloor. Always human.
We believe in craftsmanship over algorithms, people over trends, and artistic identity over market formulas. Whether a song is built around hand-played percussion, analogue synthesizers, field recordings or a laptop doesn’t matter to us. What matters is intention, authenticity and the people behind the music.
Toucan Island Records is run by musicians, producers and engineers who know what it means to build music from the ground up — because we do it ourselves every day. That perspective shapes how we work with the artists around us: with honesty, collaboration and a belief in long-term relationships rather than quick releases.
